A drone flew into Jeju International Airport, a national security facility, causing chaos when takeoffs and landings were halted.

According to Jeju Airport Corporation Airports Korea on the 17th, at about 2:21 pm on the same day, a drone was found west of the second checkpoint of Jeju Airport. The drone was found to enter the airport runway and then exit the airport in the direction of the Jeju sewage treatment plant.

Flight operations at Jeju Airport were suspended for 15 minutes from 2:30 pm as drones flew into the airport. It is not yet known who piloted the drone.

According to the Aviation Safety Act, you must obtain ‘flight approval’ to fly a drone within a radius of 3 to 9.3 km from the center of Jeju Airport, which is the highest grade of an important national facility. Breaching this will result in fines of up to 2 million or fines for negligence.

It was confirmed that the drone that flew that day was not approved.
