Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing In Hampton Bays Park: PD

The helicopter had mechanical issues as it transported a patient from East Hampton to Stony Brook University Hospital, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Suffolk County Police Department helicopter landed in a Hampton Bays park on Sunday night, officials said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the helicopter made a "precautionary landing" at 6:50 p.m. after experiencing mechanical issues. The helicopter had been transporting a patient from East Hampton to Stony Brook University Hospital when it experienced the mechanical issues and landed safely in a town park just west of the Shinnecock Canal, police said.

Another SCPD helicopter responded to transport the patient and a mechanic arrived at the scene to evaluate the helicopter before moving it, police said.
