EIGHTY-YEAR-OLD Antequera Hiker In Dramatic Mountainside Guardia Civil Helicopter Rescue

In a dramatic helicopter rescue this afternoon, Thursday 3, by the Guardia Civil’s mountain rescue air ambulance team, an 80-year-old hiker had to be rescued from a region of the El Torcal de Antequera nature reserve, which has almost impossible access by foot.

A companion of the old man had made a call to the 112 emergency services at around 1:35pm, reporting that his friend had fallen, was unable to move, and was in need of medical assistance on the mountainside, at which point 112 deployed a large-scale emergency operation, mobilising the Fire Brigade, Local and National Police patrols, the Civil Protection volunteers and the Public Health Emergencies Company ambulance (EPES 061) to the location.

Under such extreme circumstances, the pilot of the Guardia Civil helicopter was incredible, landing the aircraft as close to the injured man as possible – eliminating the need for the mountain rescue team to climb across the rugged terrain to reach the eighty-year-old Antequera hiker – where the health professionals tended to him as best as they could, before airlifting the injured man to a hospital in Antequera, where he will receive treatment to his injuries.
