A report has been filed with Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority after an Ambulance Tasmania aero-medical retrieval helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at Hobart Airport overnight.
The helicopter, which is operated by private aviation company Rotorlift, landed safely on the airport runway around 8 PM on Tuesday night after experiencing a ‘mechanical issue’.
A Department of Health spokesperson told Pulse all protocols were followed.
“Ambulance Tasmania’s aero-medical retrieval services continue to be operational, with two additional helicopters available and contingency plans in place to access additional support from interstate partners if required.”
It is understood the aircraft had only recently come out of engine maintenance, and was en-route to a call-out at St Helens when it was forced to turn back 10 minutes into its journey.
