A source confirms a helicopter that went missing earlier today near an island in the Gulf of Alaska belongs to Andy Teuber. He is the person the Coast Guard is currently searching for. Alaska’s News Source reported on the missing helicopter this evening but did not say who the pilot was. The article states the helicopter took off after 2 pm today from Merrill Field and did not file a flight plan.

Teuber resigned last week as as president and chairman of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. The Anchorage Daily News posted this story about Teuber, ANTHC boss resigned after employee accused him of ‘unrelenting’ abuse, earlier today. According to the ADN article, Teuber stated:

“I have never, and would never, engage in a non-consensual or ‘quid pro quo’ personal relationship with anyone,” he wrote. “The allegations of wrongdoing that I have been made aware of are false, and these allegations and their timing appear designed to portray me unjustly and falsely; to damage my personal and family relationships; but especially to sabotage my recent engagement and new marriage; and to undermine my professional prospects.”

Update: The Coast Guard says they found a float and some debris but have not yet confirmed it is part of the missing helicopter. The debris field was spotted at 7:08 pm, according to a spokesperson from the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard search for overdue helicopter near Kodiak, Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard is searching for an overdue helicopter approximately 66 nautical miles northeast of Kodiak, Alaska, Tuesday.

Missing is Andy Teuber from Anchorage, last seen wearing a hat, black sweater, and jeans. The helicopter he’s reported to be flying is a black and white Robinson R66 with the tail number N1767.

Searching for him are a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Anchorage command center received notification from a family member at 5 p.m. that Teuber left Merrill Field Airport at 2:09 p.m. with intentions of traveling to Kodiak. Teuber’s last known location was approximately 66 nautical miles northeast of Kodiak.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak.

“Our primary focus is the safety of the overdue helicopter pilot,” said Ensign Muenter from Coast Guard Sector Anchorage. “Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sector Anchorage command center at (907) 428-4100.”
