Australian drivers have heaped praise on a helicopter pilot who was forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of a roundabout.

Toll Ambulance Rescue posted a remarkable image on its Facebook page on Tuesday, and it didn't take long for scores of people to applaud the impressive skills of pilot Craig Boaden.

The highly unusual incident happened at Tea Gardens, north of Sydney, on the NSW Pacific Highway, on January 13.

'Precision parking', one person said on social media, with another playfully stating 'she now knows what roundabouts are for.'

A third commented that it was 'the best use I have ever seen for a roundabout', with a fourth commending pilot Boaden for his 'clever skills.'

A spokeswoman from Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter confirmed that Boaden and his crew were forced to land on the tiny circle as a matter of urgency.

'Our Rescue 207 team was tasked to Tea Gardens on Wednesday January 13 to provide immediate and critical care to an injured motorbike rider,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'The roundabout provided maximum obstacle clearance and allowed access for additional emergency vehicles.

'The decision to land on the roundabout was made overhead and in communication with ground crew, in this instance, NSW Police.'

Aircrewman James Koens assisted Boaden at the emergency scene alongside two representatives from NSW Ambulance.

The injured motorbike rider was then transported to nearby John Hunter Hospital.
