Russia’s Volgograd region: air medical services helicopter crashes, pilot dead

An air medical services helicopter has crashed, killing the pilot, in Russia’s Volgograd region, Russia’s state news agency TASS reports, citing the local healthcare committee.

There were no passengers aboard. The reason for the crash could have been a technical issue, according to Russian news agency Interfax: “After having delivered the injured [man] and the medics, the helicopter was making its way back to the platform. During the flight, the pilot contacted the dispatcher and reported malfunction. Communication with him was then lost.”

A criminal case on violating aviation safety regulations has been initiated, as per Russia’s Investigative Committee.
