JEFFERSON COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) -- Maryland State Police rescued two people on the Shenandoah River south of Harpers Ferry.

A little after 9:45 p.m., Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 3 located two victims at Frederick Municipal Airport. The two people were stranded on the edge of a large flat rock along the Shenandoah River.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter had to perform an aerial hoist rescue to retrieved the people due to the rocky terrain, low water level, the difficulty of vessels getting to the victims, and the extended extraction time.

The Trooper 3 helicopter crew configured an aerial hoist rescue while the pilots maneuvered the helicopter into a steady 90-foot hover position above the river bend.

That's when the crew lowered the rescue basket to the people on the rock. Both individuals climbed into the rescue basket and were hoisted up to the aircraft.

The rescue technicians and crew examined the individual's condition and determined that both individuals were in stable conditions. The Trooper 3 helicopter crew transported the individuals safely to a drop-off location.
